Remembering El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz

No historic figure had more of an impact on my young, learning teenage mind than El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz.

El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz
In memory of his political genius for human respect, dignity, and equality.
Never forget: it’s bigger than what they teach in their school books.

On this day in 1965, Malcolm X was assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in Washington Heights, New York.

Son of a Baptist minister; New York City hustler; honor student; convicted criminal; powerful minister in the Nation of Islam; father and husband: Malcolm X transformed himself, time and again, in order to become one of the most feared, loved, and undeniably charismatic leaders of twentieth-century America.

No one better represents the tumultuous times of his generation.
