Cosmos 2014: Episode 1.

Neil deGrasse Tyson telling the story of Giordano Bruno and how the religious Catholic Church expelled, banned, imprisoned, and murdered him for questioning the Sun and other planets revolving around Earth.

This is one example of why I question any belief without evidence (even mine own beliefs), but regardless of the difference in opinion, we should all respect each others independent thoughts and ideas – for this is how we move forward as a people (by forcing us to question ourselves).

This show is going to be great! 🙂

“But we humans are newcomers, arising only a few million years ago. Our present technical civilization is just a few hundred years old. We have not had much recent experience in voluntary interspecies (or even intraspecies) cooperation. We are very devoted to the short-term and hardly ever think about the long-term. There is no guarantee that we will be wise enough to understand our planetwide closed ecological system, or to modify our behavior in accord with that understanding.”
